DPS COUNSELOR USES LAW OF ATTRACTION TO HELP STUDENTS
Middle School Counselor Gives Students Hope: Students Want To Live Their Dreams; They Learn Best When They Have Good Role Models
Detroit teens are angry at national media for portraying them as second-class students, and many of them see their ‘tomorrows’ branded with the words – YEAH, RIGHT! One DPS counselor uses a form of visualization to give her students hope for a better tomorrow, while demonstrating her technique by example.
Patricia Moore, a DPS counselor at Hally Middle School, advises her students on the right educational path to take them towards their goals and dreams. Sadly, many of the students didn’t think their goals and dreams would ever come true: “What do you mean they won’t come true?” was always a way to tell her visioning-technique story.
Ms. Moore, a graduate of Cass Technical High School, would tell the story of how she envisioned her dream of being an entertainer one day, as well as the famous venues where she wanted to perform—with the Legendary Baker’s Keyboard Lounge being at the top of her list.
Last month Ms. Moore, a jazz violinist, entertained former students, parents, and fellow teachers in the ‘filled-over-capacity’ Baker’s Keyboard Lounge; a goal and dream she has been telling students about for years.
This Friday, April 23, 2010 at 9:00 PM, the DPS “Vision Counselor” will perform once again at Baker’s, a dream she and her father started envisioning while attending DPS’s Atkinson Elementary School.
Ms. Moore often quotes from a wise Book when counseling her students, “Without vision the people perish.”
