Tricia is a native Detroiter, whose primary instrument is jazz violin. It has been said that music, at its most powerful level, transcends barriers and unites people who on the surface appear to have nothing in common—Tricia’s music falls into that upper echelon of gifted artists.
Embarking on a solo career after performing for the past five years with her jazz group, V Miles Out, Tricia’s emotionally intense and soothing music goes much further than skin deep in exploring the timeless and universal themes of—conflict, hope, and love—in the face of all that life delivers.
One night in concert, Tricia delivered a heart wrenching jazz interpretation of the classic Bill Withers’ song, Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone. After the set, a bartender told Tricia that he overheard a man tell his friend, “That reminded me of a hurtful time in my life...but the way she [Tricia] played that song, man, it made me remember why I always took that girl back.” Tricia’s soothing music not only transcends the barriers of the heart, it descends deeply into a person’s heart of hearts—and soothes their soul.
Tricia is a song writer and she also sings. The lyrics of her songs delve deep into the human psyche; while her hypnotic voice brings comfort to your inner being. Listen to the track entitled, You’re My Man, on her music web page and judge for yourself.
Over the years Tricia has performed and recorded with; Aretha Franklin, Freddie Hubbard, Fred Hammond, the late Barry White, and Teddy Harris’s National Jazz Orchestra. She also recorded with Donnie McClurkin on the Live In London and More CD featuring the Platinum award winning song—We Fall Down.
Tricia won Detroit’s Smooth Jazz Radio’s “Discovery Jazz Series” in 2007. After that achievement, she was selected and played center stage at the 2008 Detroit-International Jazz Festival; opening for the legendary jazz great and Grammy Award winning, Regina Carter. Tricia rounded the year off by closing the Comerica City Jazz Fest—with three curtain calls, and a standing ovation! She performs regularly at Detroit’s prestigious Music Hall and Jazz Café.
Tricia taught music in the Detroit Public School system, and later became a middle school counselor. She has a lust for life, and six closets full of Stiletto-heeled shoes and boots that she wears while performing!
Thank you for letting us introduce you to an up and coming jazz violin great—Tricia.
